The Short Version

SpellType runs AI autocomplete on your Mac. Your text never leaves your device. The app does not collect, store, or transmit your writing.

What SpellType Does

SpellType is a macOS application that provides AI-powered text autocomplete suggestions. All AI inference runs locally on your Mac using Apple Silicon. No text, keystrokes, or personal content is ever sent to any server.

Data We Do Not Collect

• Text you type or autocomplete suggestions
• Keystrokes or keyboard input
• App names, window titles, or screen content
• Personal information of any kind
• Browsing history or clipboard content

Website Prelaunch Waitlist

If you click a download button before SpellType is publicly available, the website may show an early access form. If you submit it, we store your email address, app preference, use case, referring page, and campaign tags so we can send an invite and understand launch demand.

Website visits and download-button clicks may also be logged as website events with page, source button, referrer, campaign tags, country, browser user agent, anonymous visitor/session identifiers, and timestamp. These events do not include your writing, keystrokes, screen content, clipboard content, IP address, precise location, or app window content.

Anonymous Analytics (Optional)

If you opt in, SpellType sends anonymous usage statistics via TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service. This includes:

• Aggregate suggestion acceptance rate
• Average inference latency
• macOS version and Mac model
• App version

This data is fully anonymous — no IP addresses are stored, no user profiles are created, and no personal information is included. You can disable analytics at any time in Settings.

Anonymous Free Quota and Entitlements

Free-plan limits and Pro access are enforced with an anonymous install identifier, accepted-suggestion counters, and checkout or license status. These checks do not include typed text, autocomplete suggestions, prompts, app window content, clipboard content, or personal information.

Network Connections

SpellType connects to the internet only for:

• Model download — One-time local model download when you first install the app
• Update checks — Weekly check for new versions via Sparkle
• Quota and entitlement checks — Anonymous accepted-suggestion counts and Pro status used to enforce the free plan and unlock Pro
• Checkout and license validation — Purchase and license status handled through Lemon Squeezy
• Anonymous analytics — If enabled, a daily summary is sent via TelemetryDeck

Writing suggestions continue to run locally. Quota and entitlement checks may use cached local state while temporarily offline.

Children's Privacy

SpellType does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
