SpellType runs entirely on your Mac. Your text never leaves your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit any personal data.

What SpellType Does

SpellType is a macOS application that provides AI-powered text autocomplete suggestions. All AI inference runs locally on your Mac using Apple Silicon. No text, keystrokes, or personal content is ever sent to any server.

Data We Do Not Collect

• Text you type or autocomplete suggestions
• Keystrokes or keyboard input
• App names, window titles, or screen content
• Personal information of any kind
• Browsing history or clipboard content

Anonymous Analytics (Optional)

If you opt in, SpellType sends anonymous usage statistics via TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service. This includes:

• Aggregate suggestion acceptance rate
• Average inference latency
• macOS version and Mac model
• App version

This data is fully anonymous — no IP addresses are stored, no user profiles are created, and no personal information is included. You can disable analytics at any time in Settings.

Network Connections

SpellType connects to the internet only for:

• Model download — One-time download (~900 MB) when you first install the app
• Update checks — Weekly check for new versions via Sparkle
• Anonymous analytics — If enabled, a daily summary is sent via TelemetryDeck

Third-Party Services

• Hugging Face — Model download hosting
• Sparkle — App update framework
• TelemetryDeck — Anonymous analytics (opt-in)

Children's Privacy

SpellType does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
